Certification:
The following steps detail the process for becoming a certified member of the NAOAA:
1) Fill out our Application form at this link:
2) Acquire and study the following recommended (but not mandatory) book in order to prepare you for the NAOAA Course Module assignments: Day, Malcolm. Assessment of Prior Learning: A Practitioner's Guide. Cheltenham, UK: Nelson Thomes, Ltd.: 2002. You are encouraged to do your homework, so to speak, by also seeking other study resources to better acquaint you-prior to taking the NAOAA Course Modules-with the skills necessary to become a professional prior learning assessor.
3) Make your first payment (click here) of $800 prior to taking the NAOAA Course Modules program. You will make your final payment of $800 upon completion of the Modules. Each module will be sent to you by email.
4) Take the NAOAA Course Modules program. There are four Modules (sections) with four assignments per section. These assignments consist of four essays apiece, of varying lengths (200-500 words each). They will test your knowledge in all areas related to the assessment of prior learning in the awarding of equivalent college course credits to your clients/students. You are encouraged to read the recommended book and prepare yourself prior to doing the assignments. You will have two weeks for each Module, but you may finish more quickly and move to the next Module. You will be able to log in and out of the course at will. When you have completed all the essay assignments for a given Module, you will submit them by uploading them to the Drop Box. Then you will be allowed to proceed to the next Module.
5) Upon successful completion of the NAOAA Course Modules program you will receive a certificate that verifies your abilities to practice as a professional Prior Learning Assessor.
